University of Luxembourg (uni.lu) – the Laboratory for Photovoltaics (LPV) and the Laboratory for Energy Materials (LEM). The head of LPV, Prof. Susanne Siebentritt, has been involved in EU projects since 1997, including coordination of large collaborative projects. LPV and LEM have received funding from the industry for several technology-oriented projects. They have extensive expertise in the preparation and characterisation of chalcopyrite solar cells.

LPV and LEM have all the necessary equipment and expertise for optoelectronic thin film and device characterisation, with a focus on photoluminescence methods. LPV runs a complete baseline for the preparation of solar cells, including several co-evaporation vacuum systems, a sputtering system and the necessary chemistry equipment. The main infrastructures available to carry out the project research activities include i) MBE machine, ii) Sputter machine, iii) Chemical lab for chemical bath deposition of buffers and chemical treatments; iv) Optical lab, electron microscope, electrical lab for quality control of films and efficiency measurements of solar cells (incl. AAA solar simulator); v) ALD; vi) inkjet printer for semiconductor inks.
